Mitra DRR Learning Center (MDRRLC)

MDRRLC is the first private disaster education and learning center in Nepal established in 2019 and currently managed by the Disaster Education Promotion Office (DEPO). Developed with technical support from CITYNET Plus Arts Creative Centre (Japan) and NPO Plus Arts (Japan), the center serves as an interactive space dedicated to enhancing disaster preparedness through practical and experiential learning. The building is completely retrofitted to meet high standards of seismic engineering, complies with the building code of Nepal and is wheel-chair accessible.

The center includes an orientation room, a room dedicated to Nepal’s disaster history, and an exhibit room where visitors can try a variety of games and interactive activities. These activities are adapted from Japan and localized to fit Nepal’s context. Visitors can also learn about disaster prevention practices used in Japan, including specific examples that may be applicable in Nepal.

MDRRLC serves as a unique resource center for schools and communities, offering hands-on experiences, educational tools, and simulation-based activities that promote awareness and preparedness for various types of disasters. The center welcomes visitors of all ages and has become an important hub for experiential learning and community engagement in disaster risk reduction.
